‘Couture’: First Look At Angelina Jolie In Alice Winocour’s Paris Fashion Week Drama

A little bit of Paris Fashion Week will be coming to TIFF next month with Alice Winocour’s Couture, starring Angelina Jolie. With the film’s world premiere gearing up, the first images from the anticipated drama have arrived.

Written and directed by Winocour, Couture stars Jolie as an ailing filmmaker who sees her life unexpectedly intersect with two women during Paris Fashion Week. The film also stars Louis Garrel, Ella Rumpf, and Anyier Anei.

SYNOPSIS: Set during the frenzy of Paris Fashion Week, three women’s lives intersect in Paris, Maxine (Jolie), a filmmaker in her forties who discovers she has breast cancer and is drawn into an unexpected connection with a familiar collaborator (Garrel); Ada (Anei), a fresh face in modeling, escaping a predetermined future back home in South Sudan; and Angèle (Rumpf), a makeup artist working in the shadows of the catwalks. As their paths cross, the film reveals the quiet resilience beneath the surface of public performance and honors the unspoken solidarity shared among these women across professions, cultures, and continents.

All four key actors can be seen in the two images, including Jolie and Garrel whose characters share a past.

This is Winocour’s first film since 2022’s Paris Memories. She has previously directed such acclaimed dramas as Augustine, Disorder, and Proxima, while also co-writing Mustang. Winocour makes movies that are always a big deal on the global scene, and this one is likely going to be the same. But it has a chance to make some noise stateside, too, with Jolie topping the bill.

Couture doesn’t have a release date either domestically or internationally, but expect that to change soon.
