The loss of Terence Winter from The Batman spinoff series about the Gotham PD was a big blow. However, it hasn’t taken long for WarnerMedia to find his replacement. Joe Barton, a TV vet who has worked on shows such as Giri/Haji, Humans, and the upcoming Amazon thriller Invasion, has taken over as showrunner.
The untitled Gotham series is a prequel to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight in just his second-year of crimefighting. While details aren’t known at this point, the show is expected to “build on the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City.”
So far there’s been no casting, or an indication which DC Comics characters will be involved. I’m curious to know how this will differentiate itself from the recent Fox series Gotham, which explored similar territory.
Other DC Films spinoffs coming to HBO Max include Peacemaker, based on James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and starring John Cena. Another is a Justice League Dark series from JJ Abrams and Bad Robot.
