Well, Harrison Ford has always promised that nobody else could play Indiana Jones but him. And it turns out he wasn’t lying. Indiana Jones 5 has been in the works forever, facing numerous delays as Ford has only gotten older. Well, it’s on now, and when the film arrives in July 2022 it will be the end of the franchise.
The news was confirmed by Disney and Lucasfilm during yesterday’s mini-D23 disguised as an investor conference. It follows a long development that has seen multiple writers try to crack the screenplay, with David Koepp taking the most shots at it. But the problems persisted and Steven Spielberg, who has directed every Indiana Jones film since Raiders of the Lost Ark, decided to step down and simply exec-produce. He was replaced by Logan and Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold.
Let’s be real, nobody wants to see another actor play Indiana Jones, so this is probably for the best. That said, this is only going to last until Disney tries to reboot it, right? Filming on Indiana Jones 5 begins in 2021.
