Liam Neeson has been a recurring presence in different projects during these pandemic times, and I have to say, much like seeing Kevin Costner and Diane Lane in a movie together, there’s a certain comfort to having him a leading role. Even as Neeson steers clear from the Taken franchise, it’s not as if his films have suddenly grown in complexity. Take for instance his latest, The Marksman, which has a premise as simple as its title.
In the trailer for The Marsksman, we see Neeson as a struggling Marine sharpshooter living in a border town, who gets involved in the lives of a migrant woman and her young son as they flee a murderous drug cartel. When the mother dies, it’s up to him to get the boy to safety in Chicago while avoiding the killers on their trail.
The film is directed and co-written by longtime Clint Eastwood producer Robert Larenz, who made his directorial debut a few years ago on Trouble with the Curve. Also in the cast are Katheryn Winnick, Juan Pablo Raba, Teresa Ruiz, and Jacob Perez.
The Marksman opens on January 22nd 2021!
SYNOPSIS: Hardened Arizona rancher Jim Hanson (Liam Neeson) wants to be left alone as he fends off eviction notices and tries to make a living on an isolated stretch of the borderland. But everything changes when Hanson, an ex-Marine sharpshooter, witnesses 11-year-old migrant Miguel (Jacob Perez) fleeing with his mother Rosa (Teresa Ruiz) from drug cartel assassins led by the ruthless Mauricio (Juan Pablo Raba). After being caught in a shoot-out, a dying Rosa begs Jim to take her son to her family in Chicago safely. Defying his cop daughter Sarah (Katheryn Winnick), Jim sneaks Miguel out of the local U.S. Customs and Border Patrol station, and together, they hit the road with the group of killers in pursuit. Jim and Miguel slowly begin to overcome their differences and begin to forge an unlikely friendship. Simultaneously, Mauricio and his fellow assassins blaze a cold-blooded trail, hot on their heels. When they finally meet on a Midwestern farm, a fight to the death ensues as Jim uses his military skills and code of honor to defend the boy he’s come to love.
