Ever since Deadpool 2, there’s been a great deal of speculation about the future of Deadpool 3. The Fox sale to Disney was looming, and while the X-Men franchise was surely going away (it only JUST breathed its last breath), Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is mega-popular and both movies proven successes. Surely, Kevin Feige was itching to bring the mouthy merc over to the MCU? Well, it’s taken some time, but there is finally movement on a new movie with the hiring of a surprising pair of writers.
According to Deadline, Marvel has hired Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to script Deadpool 3. The two are exec-producers and writers on the Fox animated series, Bob’s Burgers, so they have a pretty solid grip on silly humor. This will be the first film in the franchise that won’t be scripted by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
This will also mark Deadpool’s entry into the MCU…right? Well, we don’t know. While that would seem to be the case, it’s also possible they keep him outside and doing his own thing out-of-continuity. But that would be a terrible waste, wouldn’t it? Don’t we all want to see Deadpool meet up with Spider-Man?
As for a director, nobody has been named yet. David Leitch, who directed Deadpool 2, has an open door if he wants it, but he’s a little busy right now. In other words, look for somebody new to take over.
