The story of U.S. Congresswoman Katie Hill is one that exposes the double-standard in our male-dominated political system. Her fall from grace isn’t what we normally get from scandals in the office, which makes it perfect for the cinematic treatment. And Hill is fortunate enough to know now that the actress who will be playing her is among the best around: Elisabeth Moss.
Moss will play Katie Hill in a Blumhouse film based on her memoir, She Will Rise: Becoming a Warrior in the Battle for True Equality. Michael Seitzman will write the screenplay, which centers on Hill’s rise as Congress’ first openly bisexual Congresswoman in 2018, and her resignation from the job less than a year after taking office.
A dispute with her estranged husband led to nude photos of Hill being released to the public, as well as admission to having an inappropriate relationship with a campaign staffer. Hill resigned from office just days after the scandal broke, but used her remaining time to speak out against revenge porn and the double-standard where a man credibly accused by a couple of dozen women of sexual abuse can be President of the United States. Her final act of Congress was voting to move forward on impeachment.
Yep, it’s a story damn worth telling.

Blumhouse’s plan is to find a streaming partner for the film, which is an interesting thing to put out there right off the bat. Are studios not even looking for theatrical distribution anymore?
Here’s the thing: Hill’s staff isn’t happy about any of this. A supposed ex-staffer of Hill’s took over her old Congressional Twitter account and began taking shots at Hill, Blumhouse, and Moss for the movie, claiming to be the victim of workplace abuse. Hill has since come out and said the account was hacked, but who knows? Maybe this anonymous staffer is real, or maybe it’s just more of the same people who set out to hurt her career in the first place? [Variety]
