Productions are only just starting to ramp back up, although many remain shut down due to the pandemic. But you think Clint Eastwood is going to sit idly by on the sidelines? Hell no. He’s got a new project in the works, one that isn’t actually so new at all. In fact, it’s already been unveiled once before nearly a decade ago.
Deadline reports Eastwood will direct and star in Cry Macho, which is based on the N. Richard Nash book that he’ll adapt along with Nick Schenk. The story follows a broken down horse trainer and ex-rodeo star who plans to make $50K by kidnapping a kid and delivering him to the boy’s father, only to get more than he bargained for.
So Eastwood nearly considered starring in a movie adaptation of Cry Macho back in the ’80s, but it didn’t get very far. However, back in 2011 a new version was unveiled at Cannes to be Arnold Schwarzenegger’s big comeback film after ending his political career. Unfortunately, Schwarzenegger’s personal life blew up and he put a halt on all of his acting gigs.
This sounds exactly like the kind of movie we’d expect to see from Eastwood, following in the same vein as Gran Torino and The Mule. Given the speed Eastwood works, we may see this one completed before theaters are full reopened.
