‘I Carry You With Me’ Trailer: Immigration Stands In The Way Of Love In Heidi Ewing’s Sundance Award-Winner

Heidi Ewing has been behind multiple award-winning, influential documentaries, including Jesus Camp, Freakonomics, and Detropia, finding particular success at Sundance. This year Ewing returned to Park City with I Carry You With Me, and while this marks her narrative feature debut, being topical definitely hasn’t escaped her.

A gay romance and immigrant story all rolled into one, I Carry You With Me centers on Ivan and Gerardo (Christian Vazquez), who meet and fall in love in mid-90s Mexico. Iván (Armando Espitia) , a closeted gay man with a child, finds that staying there is no longer possible and decides to risk everything by crossing into America. The hope is to reach New York and reconnect with Gerardo, together hoping to claim their piece of the American Dream.

The film won two awards in Sundance’s NEXT section, and was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics who will release it on January 8th 2021.
