Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles are back! For six seasons, The Powerpuff Girls was one of Cartoon Network’s most popular shows, even landing a full-on feature film in 2002. Now they’re returning as never seen before as part of a live-action series on The CW, and while it might be cool to see them interact with the Arrowverse, these Powerpuff Girls are done with the superhero thing.
Variety reports a live-action Powerpuff Girls series is in the works from exec-producers/writers Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully) and Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars). Crack McCracken’s original cartoon followed a trio of super-powered girls created to be perfect little girls, but the professor accidentally mixed the mysterious compound Chemical X with sugar, spice, and everything nice. His creations go on to defend Townsville from evil, but based on the new show’s synopsis, they’re over it.
“The Powerpuff Girls used to be America’s pint-sized superheroes. Now they’re disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?”
You won’t be surprised to learn that Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti is on board as a producer. He knows a thing or two about angsty teens and disillusioned adults with powers.
