You had me at Iko Uwais. Seriously, that’s all I need to know. Okay, the title hooked me, too. How can you not want to see a movie titled Fists on a Plane: Wings of Dread? I want that shit right now! Plus, it’s the rare opportunity to see Uwais, best known for The Raid and The Raid II, in a villainous role.
Fists on a Plane is led by martial artist and Ip Man 2 actor, Ashton Chen. Also in the cast are Qu Jingjing (Tibetan Raiders), Nita Hsia Jo-Yen (Anaconda), Hong Shuang (Secret Pursuit), Ren Tianye (Battlefield: Fall of the World), Gao Yi (Eye for an Eye), Huang Tao (Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms), and Liu Fengchao (The Butcher’s Blade).
The film is co-directed by Chen and Qin Pengfei (Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Soccer), and hits the Hi-YA! streaming service (one of my faves!) on December 4th.
Here’s the synopsis: Martial artists Ashton Chen and Iko Uwais (The Raid) collide in this high-altitude thriller. When air cop Gu Chaoyang (Chen) boards his flight home, he becomes the final line of defense against a hijacking led by a ruthless adversary (Uwais). Trapped in the clouds, he must use his elite combat skills and unwavering ethics to protect the passengers. What follows is a brutal, life-and-death struggle where there is no room for error and nowhere to run.
