There have been a lot of positive reactions to Johnny Depp’s Christmas horror, Ebenezer, which arrives next month. Early reports haven’t been as glowing for Day Drinker, the supernatural revenge film that marks Depp’s first major studio effort in years. Directed by Marc Webb, it reunites Depp with Penelope Cruz and co-stars Madelyn Cline.
Cline plays a bartender on a private yacht, who gets mixed up with a mysterious stranger played by Depp. Cruz plays a dangerous underworld figure entangled with the duo, who have no idea how deep her connections run.
The screenplay is by The Tomorrow War writer Zach Dean. Day Drinker is Webb’s attempted rebound after the disastrous live-action Snow White. We are a long way from the promise Webb held after (500) Days of Summer and the Amazing Spider-Man movies.
This is Depp’s fourth movie with Cruz, following Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express. Cline is best known for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot and Netflix’s Outer Banks series.
Lionsgate will release Day Drinker in theaters on March 26th 2027.
