Is the stoner comedy making a comeback or what? I’d argue that the last great one was 2018’s Never Goin’ Back, but this year sees two of them featuring A-list stars that are set to make a splash. One is the Dave Franco/O’Shea Jackson comedy Idiots (formerly The Shitheads) arriving next month, and a couple of weeks before that is Dylan Meyer’s directorial debut, The Wrong Girls, starring Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat.
NEON has dropped a new trailer for The Wrong Girls, which looks like classic stoner stuff. Mistaken identity, psychedelic mind trips, talking animals, goofy villains, and enough bong hits to make Cheech & Chong jealous.
Joining Stewart and Shawkat in the cast are LaKeith Stanfield, Zack Fox, Seth Rogen, Kumail Nanjiani, Kate McKinnon, with Tony Hale and Geena Davis. An incredible ensemble. Rogen knows this genre very well.
SYNOPSIS: Two codependent best friends living paycheck to paycheck and bong rip to bong rip get caught in a case of mistaken identity that throws their lives into chaos.
This looks like a blast, and like the kind of trip that we don’t get in theaters much anymore. The Wrong Girls hits theaters on August 14th.
