As expected, Godzilla Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki has been sought after by Hollywood since its success worldwide, which included a Oscar win for Best Visual Effects. And it doesn’t get more Hollywood than working side-by-side with Ridley Scott, who is producing Yamazaki’s latest project with 20th Century Studios, an original epic titled Nue.
We don’t know any plot details for Nue just yet, but the word “nue” does have a meaning in Japanese folklore. It’s a creature, similar to the chimera, with the head of a monkey, limbs of a tiger, body of a tanuki or raccoon dog, and a snake for the tail. So this could be a monster movie, fantasy epic, or perhaps a sci-fi feature, which would be right up Scott’s alley.
This isn’t to be confused with Tamazaki’s first English-language film, Grandgear, produced by JJ Abrams and arriving in theaters in February 2028.
Also coming up for the busy Tamazaki is Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to his international box office smash, on November 6th. [Deadline]
