I feel like this is beating a dead horse, and we don’t really need Kevin Feige to confirm what we’ve already known for months: Marvel’s Blade movie with Mahershala Ali is dead. Feige essentially confirmed the news while speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast…
“I am feeling like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.”
Being in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 for the announcement of Blade was a moment I’ll never forget. I still think Marvel underestimates how much fans love the character, which is why gamers were so pumped to see him added to the Marvel Tokon fighting game that’s coming up.
But since then, it’s been one delay after another. Multiple rewrites, multiple directors, actors coming and going. The only one who stuck around was Ali, and even the Oscar-winning actor started showing frustration after a while.
I expect that Blade will show up in the MCU before too long. He was teased briefly in an Eternals post-credits scene, and maybe they’ll leapfrog from that to something else. Or perhaps a Midnight Sons movie will actually happen? Fingers crossed.
