‘Hot Milk’ Trailer: Emma Mackey And Vicky Krieps Steam Up Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s Spanish Summer Film

Emma Mackey, fresh from being cast as the villain in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia, will be seen first in Hot Milk, the new film from writer/director Rebecca Lenkiewicz arriving this summer. She’ll be starring opposite the always-excellent Phantom Thread actress Vicky Krieps.

SYNOPSIS: Set in the scorching heat of a Spanish summer, the film follows Rose (Fiona Shaw) and her daughter Sofia (Emma Mackey) as they travel to the seaside town of Almería to consult Gómez (Vincent Perez), an enigmatic healer who may hold the key to Rose’s mysterious illness, which has led her to now use a wheelchair. But in the sun-drenched town, Sofia, trapped till now by her mother’s condition, begins to shed her inhibitions as she is drawn to the magnetic charms of a free-spirited traveler, Ingrid (Vicky Krieps).

Sofia’s increased freedom becomes too much for her controlling mother, and as the hot sun beats down, their relationship simmers with pent-up resentments and bitterness, threatening to tear the fragile threads that hold them together.

Also in the cast are Fiona Shaw, Pasty Ferran, Yann Gael, Vangelis Mourikis, and Vincent Perez.

Also coming up for Mackey is JJ Abrams’ mystery project at Warner Bros. Krieps was last seen in Viggo Mortensen’s Western drama The Dead Don’t Hurt.

Hot Milk marks Lenkiewicz’s feature directing debut. She previously wrote the films She Said, Colette, Disobedience, and Steve McQueen’s Small Axe.

IFC Films will release Hot Milk in theaters on June 27th.
