Vertical has released the official trailer for fantasy adventure film, The Magic Faraway Tree, an adaptation of Enid Blyton’s beloved novel. Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy reunite, having starred together in 2017’s Breathe, and they’re joined by Rebecca Ferguson, Nonso Anozie, Nicola Coughlan, Jessica Gunning, and Jennifer Saunders.
Directed by Ben Gregor and adapted by Paddington 2 writer Simon Farnaby, The Magic Faraway Tree “centers on Polly (Foy), Tim (Garfield), and their three children – a modern family forced to relocate to the remote English countryside. As they adapt to their new lives, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric residents, including treasured characters Moonface (Anozie), Silky (Coughlan), Dame Washalot (Gunning), and Saucepan Man (Dustin Demri-Burns). At the top of the tree, they are transported to spectacular, fantastical lands, and through the joys and challenges of their adventures, the family learns to reconnect and value each other for the first time in years.”
The film has been in the works since 2017, with Farnaby attached since the beginning. Sam Mendes had been attached to an earlier version that never got going.
Blyton wrote four books in the The Faraway Tree series, and chances are if this one’s a hit, sequels will be set into motion.
The Magic Faraway Tree hits theaters on August 21st.
