Eccentric French filmmaker Leos Carax has only directed six features since his breakout debut Boy Meets Girl in 1984. So when he’s got something new cooking, it’s a big deal. Following his acclaimed 2021 musical drama Annette, Carax is moving forward on his next film, titled Lily May B, and it’s set to star Jenna Ortega.
Of course, this is one of many lucrative deals being put together during the Cannes Film Market. Details on Lily May B are being kept under wraps, but it’s expected to begin shooting in spring 2027.
And here is the mystifying synopsis…
“Once upon a time, there was a little girl, a young woman, and a young boy. They each held a secret too heavy to bear. They met in an end-of-the-world world, and together rode a big motorcycle through empty cities, deserted freeways, immemorial forests. On their journey, they encountered many dangers, but kept going. In search of who they were; in search of a place to B, maybe?”
Ortega already has a lot on her plate, including hit Netflix series, Wednesday, Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun, a Single White Female remake, David O. Russell’s poolhall film Shutout, and JJ Abrams’ The Great Beyond. She recently starred in Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist, which premiered at Sundance. [Variety]
