Milla Jovovich has never done a movie like Protector before. The Resident Evil and The Fifth Element actress pushed her body to the limit to portray Nikki, a military vet who goes on a warpath to rescue her daughter Chloe from human traffickers.
Human trafficking is a major issue around the world, and also one that’s very important to Jovovich. To give Protector the kind of authenticity the topic deserves, Jojovich took on the stunts and fighting sequences herself, calling it one of the toughest shoots of her career.
I had the pleasure of talking with Jovovich and co-star Isabel Myers, who plays Nikki’s daughter, Chloe. Jovovich talked about the tough production, the realistic approach to the material, and how she connected to the Nikki character due to being a mother herself.
Myers, in the biggest role of her young career, talked about the challenge of playing the driving force behind Nikki’s rampage, even as Chloe held a lot of resentment over her mother’s absence.
Protector opens in theaters on March 6th.
