Somehow, prolific Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike, known for transgressive thrillers like Audition and Ichi the Killer, has never fully made the jump to Hollywood. But that seems to be changing now, as Miike is set to work with, get this, Charli XCX and Supergirl star Milly Alcock in an upcoming slasher horror flick.
Deadline reports that Charli XCX, Milly Alcock, The Walking Dead‘s Norman Reedus, Kiko Mizuhara (Norwegian Wood), and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice) will star in Miike’s untitled horror
The story finds Charli as a woman possessed by a violent, tortured spirit as she and her friends reunite in Kyoto to rekindle their lifelong friendship.
Charlie’s role goes beyond mere actress, as well. She cooked up the original idea along with Miike. Ross Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi then took that idea and wrote the screenplay.
It’s been a crazy few months for Charli XCX as the pop star has shifted gears into acting. She appeared in the recent films Sacrifice and 100 Nights of Hero. Charli had three movies at last month’s Sundance Film Festival, including the mockumentary The Moment which is in theaters now, The Gallerist, and Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex.
As for Miike, he’s directed over 100 movies in his storied career. Most recently he wrapped up on his remake, Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, starring Shun Oguri, Lily James, and WWE superstar Liv Morgan.
Production on Miike’s Untitled Kyoto begins next month.
