Stop me if you’ve heard this before: a planned heist goes wrong, sending the perpetrators on a mad dash for survival from the law and the intended target. It’s been done, and you know what? We still love it and will not stop loving that simple premise. That said, there are still ways to keep it fresh, and Apple’s upcoming limited series Lucky is doing just that. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy, the summer showcase centers on a con artist on the run from the FBI and a dangerous mob boss when a job goes sideways.
Lucky is created by the red-hot Jonathan Tropper, the writer behind hit shows Banshee, Warrior, and Your Friends & Neighbors. He’s also a frequent collaborator with director Shawn Levy, and wrote his upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter film. Cassie Pappas (Tyrant, Silo) is co-showrunner alongside Tropper.
Taylor-Joy is joined by a stacked cast of Annette Bening, Timothy Olyphant, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Drew Starkey, Clifton Collins Jr., and William Fichtner. Adding to the star power is Reese Witherspoon as a producer through her Happy Sunshine label.
Lucky hits Apple TV on July 15th with a two-episode premiere.
