Just days after the release of the latest God of War video game, Sons of Sparta, Amazon has dropped a first look at the upcoming live-action series for Prime Video. The image features Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as his young son, Atreus, as they are on the hunt.
Production is underway in Vancouver on the God of War series, with Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, For All Mankind) acting as writer, exec-producer, and showrunner.
The series will draw its storyline from the two most recent games, in which Kratos, the Spartan warrior who becomes the mythological god of war, does battle with Norse gods and monsters while raising Atreus to follow in his footsteps.
Here’s the series synopsis: Father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.
Also in the cast are Teresa Palmer as Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka as brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein as Baldur.
Expect Amazon to drop a God of War release date soon, likely with a trailer attached.
