‘KPop Demon Hunters’ Duo Writing Tim Burton’s ‘Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman’

If Tim Burton’s upcoming remake Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman didn’t have enough attention with Margot Robbie attached to play the titular giantess, it definitely will now. THR reports that Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the screenwriting duo behind KPop Demon Hunters, will now write the screenplay.

Last summer, Robbie was reported to be starring and producing Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, with Burton directing as his likely next project. The original screenplay was by Gone Girl scribe Gillian Flynn, but will now be rewritten by Jimenez and McMechen.

“We’re obsessed with the idea of a fifty-foot woman wreaking havoc because a man did her dirty,” said the duo in a statement. “We have a feeling a lot of people will relate.”

Released in 1958, the original film involved a wealthy and emotionally unstable heiress, Nancy Archer, who grows to fifty feet tall after an encounter with an alien spacecraft.  A key plot point involved Nancy’s drinking and her unhappy marriage to a philandering husband. Nobody believes her when she tells them what happened, so Nancy sets out to use her newly acquired size to get some revenge.

Jimenez and McMechan have other projects in the works, including an original series, A Really Bad Person, in conjunction with Legendary, and a queer Western feature film. KPop Demon Hunters continues to be a colossal success and a global phenomenon. The duo isn’t expected to return to write the sequel, set for 2029.
