Box Office: ‘Avatar 3’ Holds Top Spot For Fourth Straight Week, ‘Primate’ Has Strong Debut

  1. Avatar: Fire & Ash– $21.3M/$342.5M

James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire & Ash held the top spot for the fourth week in a row, the first movie to do that since Barbie in 2023. The sequel added another $21.3M for $342M domestically, surpassing the totals of fellow 2025 films Wicked: For Good and Jurassic World Rebirth. Internationally, it continues to be a powerhouse, adding another $65M for $888M, amounting to $1.2B worldwide.

2. Primate (review)- $11.3M

Horror is always a major driver in January, and that continues with a strong debut for Primate. The murderous chimp horror opened with $11.3M in 2,964 theaters. That’s not bad for a film with no big stars and lots of heavy competition. Word of mouth likely helped, as it holds an 77% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, while the Popcornmeter has it at 72%.

3. The Housemaid– $11.2M/$94.1M

4. Zootopia 2– $10.1M/$378.8M

After seven weeks, Disney’s Zootopia 2 has a massive $1.65B globally.

5. Greenland 2: Migration (review)- $8.5M

It was unclear how Lionsgate’s release of Greenland 2: Migration would go. The original movie, a disaster thriller starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, was hampered by COVID-19 and only got a digital release. It still performed well, earning $52M. The sequel finally got the theatrical release denied its predecessor, and earned an underwhelming $8.5M. It could be that it will perform better in streaming, as audiences may see it as a digital franchise to follow. Then again, reviews weren’t as strong this time around. The film holds only a 58% from critics on RT, and 65% from general audiences.

6. Marty Supreme– $7.6M/$70.1M

7. Anaconda– $5.1M/$54.2M

Despite lackluster reviews, Paul Rudd and Jack Black’s Anaconda has $110M worldwide.

8. The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants– $3.8M/$63.6M

9. David– $3M/$75.1M

10. Song Sung Blue– $2.9M/$31.1M
