Alexander Payne is following up the five Oscar nominations earned by The Holdovers by taking a trip to Scandinavia. Payne’s next film is gearing up to be Somewhere Out There, his first European project, and he’ll be working with one of the best actresses in the world right now, Renate Reinsve.
According to ScreenDaily, Payne is aiming to shoot Somewhere Out There early next year in Denmark. Reinsve, who is likely to be shortlisted for a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Sentimental Value, will reportedly lead the film. Payne will also reunite with The Holdovers DP Eigil Bryld.
Plot details remain under wraps. Payne will be directing from a script by Norwegian novelist and screenwriter Erlend Loe, based on an original concept by filmmaker Åke Sandgren.
Payne has a lot on his plate, but Somewhere Out There appears to be in the pole position. He’s working on a sequel to his 1999 hit, Election, as well as a Western starring Paul Giamatti.
Coming up for Reinsve is Kane Parsons’ directorial debut The Backrooms, alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mark Duplass.
