After years directing successful female-led comedies, Paul Feig’s turn towards dark, suspenseful thrillers has shown he can do a Hell of a lot more. His latest, The Housemaid, stars Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney in an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel franchise full of twisted secrets by the rich and deadly.
Penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine, The Housemaid stars Sweeney as a woman with a mysteriously checkered past who becomes live-in housemaid to a wealthy couple, only to unearth dark secrets beneath the surface.
The film also stars Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, and Elizabeth Perkins.
McFadden has published two more sequels to The Handmaid, so if this one turns out to be a hit when released on December 19th, don’t be surprised if Lionsgate comes back for more. If you can keep stars like Sweeney and Seyfried around for the long haul, you do it.
