So the Kerri Strug biopic Perfect has seen a lot of changes. First announced in 2020 with Olivia Wilde at the helm, the film on the Olympic gymnast now has Gia Coppola aboard to direct. While Thomasin McKenzie was briefly attached to the lead role, Deadline reports Strug will now be played by Stranger Things‘ Millie Bobby Brown, her first major part as that series winds down.
Perfect centers on Strug, who was part of the triumphant 1996 USA women’s gymnastics team dubbed the “Magnificent Seven.” Strug had one of the most unforgettable moments in Olympics history when she stuck the landing of a vault perfectly while nursing an injured ankle.
While a deal has yet to be inked, it looks as if Perfect will be a continuation of Brown’s relationship with Netflix. It was her role as Eleven on the streamer’s hit series Stranger Things that catapulted her to superstardom.
Ronnie Sandhal wrote the screenplay for Perfect. Coppola released her directorial debut Palo Alto in 2014, followed by Mainstream in 2020. She is coming off the best reviews of her career for the Pamela Anderson drama The Last Showgirl.
Expect Perfect to arrive sometime next year. Expect Netflix to push it heavily as Brown is one of its most popular stars.
