There’s no deal on the table just yet, but a rumor from Nexus Point News says Michael B. Jordan and Glen Powell are in talks for the new Miami Vice reboot from F1 director Joseph Kosinski. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but if it comes true, what a pair they would make as Crockett and Tubbs!
Miami Vice is one of those quintessential 1980s TV shows, and made instant stars out of Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. They played cool as ice Miami-Dade detective Sonny Crockett and Rico Tubbs, who solved crimes and looked slick while doing it. The show was more of a vibe and less like a police procedural.
The new version will have a screenplay by Dan Gilroy, and will be set in the ’80s rather than a contemporary reboot like Michael Mann’s 2006 movie starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx. That film earned $164M but became a cult favorite over the years.
It’s expected that cameras will roll on Miami Vice next year. Powell and Jordan are two of the busiest actors in Hollywood, so who knows if they can fit it into their schedules. We could see completely different stars set for this one, but for now I’ve got fingers crossed this rumor holds up.
