‘The Simpsons Movie’ Sequel Is Coming In July 2027

Released in 2006, The Simpsons Movie was a huge hit for Fox, earning $536M. It’s amazing that they never followed up with a sequel. Well, Disney isn’t willing to wait. They want that $$$ right now, and have officially set The Simpsons 2 for July 23rd 2027.

20th Century Studios revealed the news over social media. The sequel will take the spot of an untitled Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, which has been pulled from the schedule. That means there will no longer be a Marvel film between Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026 and Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027. A pretty long gap.

Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Yeardley Smith, Nancy Cartwright, Harry Shearer, and Hank Azaria are all expected to return as the voices of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, Mr. Burns, and the other citizens of Springfield. The series is now in its 37th season and continues to be among the most popular shows for Fox.

The first movie was notoriously difficult to get off the ground. Settling on a storyline and screenplay proved to be a problem, not to mention the time crunch of doing an animated TV show at the same time. That could explain why it’s taken so long, but also why we won’t see The Simpsons 2 for a couple of years.
