Quentin Tarantino’s Last Film Set Aside For Stage Play At London’s West End

All you Quentin Tarantino disciples out there, you’re going to be waiting a while for his tenth and supposedly final movie. While The Movie Critic was going to be his swan song, he abruptly canceled it a year ago. Another film that might’ve been his finale, centering on Brad Pitt’s character Cliff Booth from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, will instead be directed by David Fincher. So what made Tarantino change his tune? And what’s he actually doing next? Well, it’s not what you thought.

On an episode of The Church of Tarantino podcast, the filmmaker revealed that his next project won’t be a movie at all. Instead, he’s written a stage play that will occupy the next couple of years of his life, and it’s set to get going very soon…

“Oh, the play is all written. It is absolutely the next thing I’m going to do,” Tarantino said. “We’ll start the ball rolling on it in January. Because I just figure it’s like the first of the year.”

Tarantino continued, “It’s probably going to take up a year and a half to two years of my life. If it’s a success and I got to do the tour version of it… I’m preparing for it to be a success. If it’s a flop, then I’ll be done very quickly. But even starting from scratch, it’ll probably be a year before it’s in front of an audience.”

He didn’t reveal any plot details or casting, but you can bet he’ll bring in as many familiar faces as possible. I bet there’s a role for Uma Thurman in there somewhere. He plans for the play to debut at Londons’ West End.

For about a decade, Tarantino had been talking about his tenth and final movie before retirement. It was going to be The Movie Critic, but he abruptly pulled the plug on it last year. About that, Tarantino said it began life as an 8-part TV series that would’ve starred Pitt. This would NOT have been the Bounty Law project that was rumored about some time back. Tarantino also shot down rumors that The Movie Critic and the upcoming Cliff Booth film are linked. They are totally separate, with Booth never appearing in The Movie Critic at all.

My gut is telling me that Tarantino may never direct a tenth movie. I think he’s found other interests and making movies is off his radar for now. That would be a shame, but that’s how it looks right now.
