Sadly, the reunion of Sanctuary star Margaret Qualley and director Zachary Wigon will have to wait. THR reports Qualley has dropped out of horror thriller Victorian Psycho, and has been replaced by someone quite familiar with the genre. Longlegs actress Maika Monroe has taken the killer governess role in the film.
Monroe will star alongside Thomasin McKenzie in Victorian Psycho, from a script adapted by the book’s author, Virginia Feito.
SYNOPSIS: In 1858, a young, eccentric governess named Winifred Notty (Margaret Qualley) arrives at the remote gothic manor known as Ensor House. Winifred’s responsibilities include teaching the children table manners and educating them about their family’s history, all whilst hiding her psychopathic tendencies. As Winifred assimilates into life at Ensor House, staff members begin to inexplicably disappear, and the owners of the estate begin to wonder if there is something amiss about their new governess.
Considering Longlegs producer Dan Kagan’s involvement, it’s not surprising he turned to Monroe who was such a big part of that movie’s box office success last year. Monroe has become a staple of the horror genre with her performances in It Follows, Watcher, and more. She recently landed the lead in a remake of The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.
Prior to shooting Victorian Psycho, Monroe will shoot the Colleen Hoover adaptation Reminders of Him.
