As we’ve said many times here, in the Marvel Comics, the Thunderbolts are almost never as they claim to be. And that remains true in the MCU, hence that pesky asterisk with the title. Well, now Marvel has made it official. The real title of Thunderbolts* is…The New Avengers.
Now, I won’t be going into the story beats that led to this revelation. You can go watch the film for yourself and see. Maybe this is all just a Marvel Studios gimmick meant to drive more people to buy a ticket? It’s almost certainly that, sure, but there is a reason story-wise and it explains why the entire cast is listed in Avengers: Doomsday.
So, The New Avengers is directed by Jake Schreier and stars Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Wendell Pierce.
The team will be seen again in Avengers: Doomsday, which the Russo Brothers are shooting now for release on May 1st 2026. It’s possible the team pops up before that, but again, I’m not going to spoil anything here.
Check out the big reveal below (along with Sebastian Stan’s newly bald head!!), and my review of Thunderbolts* here.
