Box Office: ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Passes $550M Worldwide, ‘The King Of Kings’ Surprises With $19M

  1.  A Minecraft Movie– $80.6M/$280.9M

It only took two weeks, and already A Minecraft Movie is 2025’s highest-grossing domestic earner with $280M. That’s both excellent news for the industry and an indictment of the year so far. The video game adaptation fell 50% from last week and that’s with five new releases to compete against. Worldwide it has $550M and could catch up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s $1.3B as the highest-grossing video game movie ever. Time will tell.

2. The King of Kings (review)- $19M

Faith-based group Angel Studios found itself with another hit as The King of Kings opened with $19M, the largert ever for a Biblical animated movie.

3. The Amateur (review)- $15M

The Rami Malek spy thriller The Amateur opened to a solid $15M. That’s not bad for 20th Century Studios’ mature-skewing espionage film which had decent ratings at Rotten Tomatoes (61% critics, 88% audiences) and could have long legs due to word of mouth.

4. Warfare (review)- $8.3M

A24 released Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s Iraq War film Warfare to $8.3M across 2670 theaters. That’s a bit disappointing given the strong reviews (94% critics, 92% audience on RT) and the debut of Garland’s previous film with Mendoza, Civil War, which opened at $25M last year.

5. Drop (review)- $7.5M

The rough year for Universal/Blumhouse continues with Drop. Christopher Landon’s single-location thriller starring Meghann Fahy opened to just $7.5M, which is lower than their other recent disappointments such as The Wolf Man and The Woman in the Yard.

6. The Chosen: Last Supper Part 3– $5.8M

Given how well Fathom Events has been doing with The Chosen: Last Supper over the last few weeks, it’s likely the small $5.8M debut for Part 3 has to do with The King of Kings devouring its audience.

7. A Working Man– $3M/$33.5M

8. Snow White– $2.8M/$81.9M

9. The Woman in the Yard– $2.1M/$20.3M

10. The Chosen: Last Supper Part 2– $931K/$10.9M

Also…The Michael Angarano/Michael Cera/Kristen Stewart road trip comedy Sacramento (review) opened in just 214 theaters for $314K. [BoxOfficeMojo]
