It’s always hard to pin down what director Jaume Collet-Serra will do next as he’s tackled just about every kind of genre. He got his start with horror films House of Wax and Orphan, but was also the director behind multiple Liam Neeson actioners such as Unknown and Non-Stop. He then paired with Dwayne Johnson for Disney’s Jungle Cruise and the superhero flop Black Adam. Most recently he directed the excellent Netflix thriller, Carry-On. The Spanish filmmaker goes back to his roots a little bit with the Blumhouse horror Woman in the Yard, and a new trailer for it is here ahead of its release later this month.
Collet-Serra reunites with Carry-On star Danielle Deadwyler for The Woman in the Yard which centers on a mysterious, spectral woman clad in black who appears on a family’s lawn with a dire warning, leaving them to wonder what her true intentions are.
Deadwyler stars alongside Okuwi Okpokwasili, Russell Hornsby, Peyton Jackson, and Estella Kahiha.
Blumhouse is hoping to rebound from Wolf Man with a handful of titles including M3GAN 2.0, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, and The Black Phone 2, to go along with The Woman in the Yard.
SYNOPSIS: A woman crippled by grief after she survives a car accident that takes her husband. Seriously injured, Ramona now must care for their 14-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter alone in her rural farmhouse. Then, one day, the woman takes form in their yard. Ramona assumes the woman is lost or demented, but as the woman creeps nearer and nearer to the house, it becomes clear she is no ordinary figure, and her intentions are anything but peaceful. Now Ramona must rally to protect herself and her children from the grasp of the woman who simply won’t leave them alone.
The Woman in the Yard hits theaters on March 28th.
