‘Warfare’ Trailer: Alex Garland And Ray Mendoza’s Real-Time Military Thriller Arrives In April

Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza worked together on Civil War, with the latter acting as military advisor on the dystopian thriller. Now they’re working even more closely as co-directors on Warfare, a combat thriller told in real-time and based on Mendoza’s experiences as a Navy Seal.

Directed and written by Garland and Mendoza, Warfare follows a platoon of Navy Seals, holed up with an Iraqi family while overseeing troop movements through insurgent territory. What they discover is that their location might be great for the mission, but it’s unsuitable for other more personal reasons.

The ensemble cast includes D’pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, and Henrique Zaga, with Joseph Quinn and Charles Melton.

SYNOPSIS: Written and Directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (Civil War, 28 Days Later), Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, said like never before: in real-time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.

Warfare opens in theaters on April 11th via A24!
