Marvel’s ‘Blade’ Movie Has Reportedly Been “Nixed”

Announced in 2019 (!!!), Marvel’s Blade and its star Mahershala Ali have had a long and arduous road. However, it appears to have finally come to an end, as ThePlaylist’s Rodrigo Perez reports the long-troubled film has been scrapped, or in his words, “nixed”.

I would still consider this a rumor for now, but it certainly rings as true. Blade has never gotten close to shooting. Multiple writers have taken on the script including Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo, Nic Pizzolatto, and Eric Pearson.

Directors have come and gone, as well, such as Bassam Tariq, Yann Demange, and Cary Fukunaga. Potential co-stars Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre have also dropped out due to the extensive delays. Can’t sit around and wait forever…well, Ali can, apparently. And the same with Mia Goth who stayed attached in the role of Lilith.

As recently as last November, Kevin Feige said the film was still alive, despite Disney pulling it off the schedule.

So what happens next with Blade? Just because this version has been scrapped it doesn’t mean a Blade movie won’t happen sometime down the line. What’s likely is that Ali’s Blade will pop up as part of another character’s movie, or perhaps in a Midnight Sons film if Marvel can figure that one out.

Is it finally time to dial up Wesley Snipes for a proper reboot?
