Jon Bernthal To Suit Up For The Punisher MCU Special After ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

There hasn’t been a Marvel special on Disney+ in, well, far too long. There were a couple of great ones with Werewolf by Night and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Well, they’re coming back, and this time the spotlight will shine on The Punisher, with Jon Bernthal suiting up as the violent Marvel vigilante.

Initially revealed by Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum to Comicbook (via Collider) in a since-deleted post, the news of Punisher Holiday Special has since been confirmed by EW.  Bernthal will reunite with his We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green on the Daredevil: Born Again spinoff.  The Punisher ran for two seasons on Netflix and is making the jump to the mainstream MCU along with other characters from that popular era.

“It’s like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story,” Winderbaum said.  “It’s so exciting.”

After The Punisher appears in Daredevil: Born Again, rumors are that he’ll pop up in Spider-Man 4. Perhaps Spidey dons his own red & blue version of the Punisher costume, packs a pair of web shotguns, and joins Punny in cleaning up the city? Only time will tell, but I think it’s a cool idea.
