Spike Lee is celebrating the not guilty verdict on gun charges against A$AP Rocky by revealing a first look at his next film, Highest 2 Lowest, starring the rapper/actor alongside Denzel Washington. A loose remake of Akira Kurosawa’s classic, High & Low, the crime film is expected to be released by A24 this summer, likely after a Cannes premiere.
Kurosawa’s classic centers on a wealthy businessman caught in the middle of a kidnapping plot and ransom demand that puts him in a moral quandary. Lee’s film still doesn’t have an official synopsis, but the details likely won’t change much. A24 has yet to give it a release date, but once the theatrical run is over it will move to Apple TV+.
Lee revealed the image of A$AP on his Instagram. Hopefully, this means more images of the cast will arrive soon. Along with Denzel, the film stars Jeffrey Wright, Ice Spice, Dean Winters, Ilfenesh Hadera, and more. The screenplay was co-written by Lee and Alan Fox.
