Tom Cruise has a handful of directors that he collaborates with most often. One of those is Doug Liman, who directed him in Edge of Tomorrow, American Made, and has other projects lined up with. But it seems we’ve found what they’ll work on next together, and no, it’s not that movie that’ll take them into outer space.
According to Showbiz411, Liman and Cruise are teaming up for Deeper, a “scary” movie about a former astronaut tasked with joining an expedition into a deep ocean trench that might be the deepest on the planet. Of course, things go badly once they get down there.
The script is by Max Landis, and has been making the rounds since 2016 with various talent attached including Idris Elba, Bradley Cooper, Gal Gadot, and directors Kornel Mundruczo and Baltasar Kormakur.
When asked why he and Cruise are doing a scary flick Liman said it’s because he’s “never done one and neither has Tom Cruise.”
Cruise has a lot on his plate already. He’s recently signed on for a Days of Thunder sequel, and there’s also Top Gun 3 and the aforementioned outer space movie. So it’s unclear where Deeper fits, but it’s also far enough along that it could be ready to go faster than the others.
