‘The Brutalist’ Trailer: Brady Corbet And Adrien Brody Build A True American Epic

Over the weekend, the Washington DC Film Critics Association awarded Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist with two WAFCA Awards. That was followed yesterday by an impressive seven Golden Globes nominations. A24 has seen this as a pretty good time to finally release a full trailer for Corbet’s epic drama, one of the best movies of the year.

Adrien Brody seems poised to return to the Oscars stage for his performance as Hungarian Jew and Holocaust survivor László Toth. A renowned architect, he escapes to America for his piece of the American Dream but is constantly frustrated in this pursuit. Guy Pearce, also a likely Oscar nominee for his supporting turn, plays German benefactor Harrison Lee Van Buren, who hires Toth to construct an ambitious community center in honor of his late mother. Over the course of a decade, we see the relationship between the men ebb and flow turbulently, with Toth challenged at every turn for his most creative endeavors.

We also see Felicity Jones as Toth’s wife Erzsébet, and Joe Alwyn as Harrison’s pompous son Harry. Also in the cast are Stacy Martin, Raffey Cassidy, Isaach de Bankole, Alessandro Nivola, and Emma Laird.

Here’s the synopsis: Escaping post-war Europe, visionary architect László Toth arrives in America to rebuild his life, his work, and his marriage to his wife Erzsébet after being forced apart during wartime by shifting borders and regimes. On his own in a strange new country, László settles in Pennsylvania, where the wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren recognizes his talent for building. But power and legacy come at a heavy cost…

The Brutalist opens in select theaters on December 20th, with special 70mm presentations available. A wider rollout will begin in January 2025.
