‘Dirty Angels’ Interview: Maria Bakalova Is Pumped For Her First Full-Fledged Action Movie

Opening this week is the military-grade action flick Dirty Angels, directed by one of the greats of the genre, Martin Campbell. The filmmaker behind Vertical Limit, The Mask of Zorro, and a pair of 007 films in Goldeneye and Casino Royale, is doing something different with this one. In front of the camera is an all-female ensemble of badasses led by Eva Green, Ruby Rose, and perhaps most surprisingly, Maria Bakalova. These ladies play an elite team of soldiers fighting to rescue a group of women kidnapped by ISIS.

Bakalova, best known for her Oscar-nominated performance in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, and roles in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Apprentice, has never tackled an action movie quite like this before. She couldn’t have had a better director to help guide her through it. Campbell helped turn Pierce Brosnan, who was coming off the comedic detective series Remington Steele, into one of the most popular James Bonds ever.

I was fortunate to spend a few minutes talking with Maria Bakalova about her role in Dirty Angels. We discussed her excitement to be doing a full-fledged action movie, and to do it alongside Eva Green who is one of the toughest, most intimidating actresses around. We also talked about the incredible run of films she’s been on in 2024, and the long road to getting to this point of her career.

Check out the Bakalova interview below! Dirty Angels opens on December 13th.
