Once known strictly for directing comedies such as Bridesmaids and Spy, Paul Feig has been all over the map lately with A Simple Favor, The School for Good and Evil, and action-comedy Jackpot! Next up, Feig turns to the thriller genre for The Housemaid, and he’s already got two big stars ready to go.
Deadline reports Paul Feig will direct Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried in The Housemaid. The film is an adaptation of Freida McFadden’s novel, and stars Sweeney as a struggling woman who gets a new job as housemaid to a wealthy young married couple, only to learn they are hiding deadly secrets.
Feig directs from a screenplay by Rebecca Sonnenshine, who has written episodes of The Boys and The Vampire Diaries.
Sweeney might be the hottest actress in Hollywood right now. The Euphoria star has had a busy year with Madame Web, Immaculate, and the Ron Howard thriller Eden that just premiered at TIFF.
Seyfried is an Oscar nominee for her performance in Mank, and a Golden Globe winner for The Dropout. She will probably always be best remembered for her performances in Mean Girls and Mamma Mia!
Feig is also working on a sequel to A Simple Favor which is set to open in Spring 2025, so it’s unclear when we’ll see The Housemaid in theaters.
