Fresh off her voice role as Elita-1 in Transformers One, Scarlett Johansson has been attached to something geared more toward adults. Deadline reports Amazon MGM Studio and producer Scott Stuber have acquired film rights to The Girl in the Lake, a proposal for an adult mystery thriller novel by New York Times bestselling author Lauren Oliver. Johansson is aboard to produce and potentially star in the movie.
Assuming Johansson digs the screenplay, she’ll sign on to play the title role. Plot details for The Girl in the Lake are being kept under wraps, but it’s previously been described as ” What Lies Beneath meets The Sixth Sense.”
Oliver is known for her young adult novels, including Before I Fall which was adapted into a movie in 2017 starring Zoey Deutch. The Girl in the Lake would be a change of pace, shifting into adult thriller territory.
The film will reunite Johansson with Stuber, the former head of film for Netflix, after they worked together on Marriage Story and In Good Company. Coming up next for Johansson is Jurassic World Rebirth which opens in summer 2025. She also wrapped on her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
