Fans of Peaky Blinders, it’s time to celebrate. Filming on the upcoming movie is officially underway, and Netflix has dropped the first image of star Cillian Murphy, looking suave in his role as gangster Tommy Shelby.
Details on the plot remain a mystery, but we know it’ll be set during WWII, a time after the decline of the real-life street gang. Series creator Steven Knight is back writing the screenplay, with Tom Harper (The Aeronauts) directing. Joining Murphy in the cast are Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth.
“I’m thrilled to see the cameras rolling on this new chapter of the Peaky Blinders story, set during World War II,” Knight told Netflix. “The country is at war, and so, of course, are our Peaky Blinders.”
“It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” Murphy said. “It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of ‘Peaky Blinders.’ This is one for the fans.”
Harper added, “There’s a great feeling of anticipation and excitement amongst our outstanding cast and crew. We’re grateful to the fans for getting us to this point and believe this next chapter is going to deliver something extraordinary.”
Peaky Blinders will likely hit Netflix in 2025.
