‘Blitz’ Trailer: Saoirse Ronan Faces The German Blitzkrieg In Steve McQueen’s WWII Drama

After directing five movies for his Small Axe collection, you would think that Steve McQueen would take a longer break. But no, he’s already back with WWII drama Blitz, and it looks to be his biggest film since 12 Years A Slave which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Blitz stars Saoirse Ronan and newcomer Elliott Heffernan. The historical drama takes in London during the German air raid bombings known as the Blitzkrieg. Heffernan plays a nine-year-old boy who finds himself in tremendous danger when he gets lost in the city during the attacks. Ronan plays the boy’s mother, who desperately goes out in search for him.

Ronan and Heffernan are joined by a large ensemble that includes Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Paul Weller, Kathy Burke, Weller, Stephen Graham, Leigh Gill, Mica Ricketts, CJ Beckford, Alex Jennings, Joshua McGuire, Hayley Squires, Erin Kellyman, and Sally Messham.

SYNOPSIS: Sir Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” follows the epic journey of George (Elliott Heffernan), a 9-year-old boy in World War II London whose mother Rita (Saoirse Ronan) sends him to safety in the English countryside. George, defiant and determined to return home to his mom and his grandfather Gerald (Paul Weller) in East London, embarks on an adventure, only to find himself in immense peril while a distraught Rita searches for her missing son.

Apple will release Blitz in theaters on November 1st.
