‘Barbie’ Trailer: Margot Robbie Is Everything, Ryan Gosling Is Just Ken In Greta Gerwig’s New Comedy

There have been multiple attempts to get a Barbie movie off the ground, all of which took a traditional view of the iconic doll. Strangely enough, it wasn’t until Greta Gerwig came along that everything fell into place. Strange, because Gerwig isn’t the first filmmaker one would expect to bring the most mainstream toy ever to the big screen. And then when you see that she co-wrote the script with Noah Baumbach…well, they’re going to go subversive with this, right?

That certainly does seem to be the direction Gerwig is going in, which should make this Barbie movie incredibly fun to watch. Margot Robbie stars as Barbie, with Ryan Gosling as her boy-toy, Ken. The all-star cast surrounding them is also no accident, with ill Ferrell, Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Kate McKinnon, and Dua Lipa making appearances.

Get ready to get drowned in hot pink. Barbie opens in theaters on July 21st.
