The Batman was a damn good film. Robert Pattinson, haircut aside, surprised us all as the caped crusader and Matt Reeves brought created a perfect blend of the realism of the Nolan-verse and the fantastical elements of the comics. This all being said, it didn’t light the world on fire. Honestly, the film and its future is suffering from a big case of market saturation with James Gunn pulling all of the DC buzz to himself most of us would be forgiven for having forgotten about this splinter-verse. One thing keeping Reeves Batman in the public conscience is HBO’s upcoming The Penguin series starring Colin Farrell.
This brings us to today’s news that The Batman will be back in theaters on August 28th. Not just that but all screenings will include a special sneak peek at The Penguin, which itself will be premiering on MAX September 19th. Here’s my question though…..why not just cut the first two episodes of The Penguin together and release that theatrically as a Fathom events type situation? No guts no glory I suppose but this seems to be begging for bad press. In a summer that’s been light on theater attendance it’s more then likely that the re-release won’t break the top 5 on re-release.
#TheBatman is flying back into #DolbyCinema at #AMCTheatres on Wednesday, 8/28.
