Live-Action ‘Masters Of The Universe’ Casts Camila Mendes As Teela

It’s tough to get too excited about developments in Amazon MGM’s live-action Masters of the Universe movie, simply because of the years of problems getting it off the ground. That said, the casting so far has been encouraging, and now THR reports that Riverdale actress Camila Mendes has joined the cast as Teela.

Mendes joins Nicholas Galitzine who was previously set to play He-Man/Prince Adam, hero of the Mattel toy line and ’80s cartoon.  The film will be directed by Laika founder Travis Knight, known for the films Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee.

Teela is a key character in He-Man’s story. The captain of the Royal Guard and Prince Adam’s constant protector, she is a loyal combatant and the adopted daughter of Man-At-Arms, who has yet to be cast. She’s smart enough to suspect that Prince Adam is secretly He-Man, and has occasionally been his love interest.

Amazon has been keeping Mendes busy this year. She starred in the Prime Video films Música and Upgraded. She is also set to star in Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer remake.

Masters of the Universe opens on June 5th 2026, or at least it’s supposed to. We’ll see.
