Rumor: Sydney Sweeney Offered Black Cat Role In Next ‘Spider-Man’ Film

Sydney Sweeney is one of the most sought-after talents in Hollywood right now, and every day of the week there is a new rumor about a project she’s been offered. Well, I personally think this latest one is a stretch to pan out in any significant way, but it’s worth noting at the very least. The dubious scooper My Time to Shine Hello says Sweeney has been offered the role of Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man 4.

There isn’t much else to the rumor at this time, but considering how hot Sweeney is right now it would be weird if Marvel Studios wasn’t reaching out to her for something. But ask yourself WHY would they do so for a Spider-Man movie after the dismal, humiliating failure of Madame Web? Do they really think Sweeney would want to return to that universe, in any way? Also, why would Marvel want to associate itself with it? Your average, casual viewer is not going to make a distinction between the MCU and the SSMU.

Black Cat is long overdue for the big screen.

There’s not much that we know about Marvel/Sony’s follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Rumors are that Sony wants to bring back Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to continue the popularity of that $1.9B smash, while Marvel wants to diminish the Multiverse aspects similar to what they’re doing in the MCU. In short, there’s no firm plot yet, nor a director. Franchise filmmaker Jon Watts has exited Marvel to pursue other projects such as Wolfs and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.

Going back to Black Cat, the character appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 played by Felicity Jones, and would’ve had a bigger role in the next film if the deal with Marvel hadn’t been struck. Sony later tried to launch a Silver Sable and Black Cat movie, titled Silver & Black, that was eventually turned into solo projects before being canceled altogether.

Coming up for Sweeney is Echo, the survival thriller directed by Ron Howard that will have its world premiere at TIFF.
