Somebody has turned on the Lobo rumor mill. For years, Jason Momoa has been associated with the role of Lobo, the intergalactic bounty of the DC Universe. When Zack Snyder approached him for Justice League, Momoa thought he was going to be playing Lobo, not Aquaman. And ever since James Gunn launched DC Studios, the thinking is that Momoa will finally land that role of the cigar-chomping Last Czarnian.
Well, take this with a grain of salt because it comes from “scooper” My Time to Shine Hello, who says that a Lobo movie is in development right now. And while Momoa isn’t named specifically, other recent rumors tie him to the role.
One story from Daniel Richtman, another infamous scooper, says that Momoa is being sought for a role opposite Millie Alcock in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, in a role that “sounds a lot like Lobo.”
There has also been talk that Lobo could make a cameo in James Gunn’s Superman movie, the kick-off of his new DCU on July 11th 2025. Supergirl is the second planned feature, arriving in June 2026.
A Lobo movie was close to happening years ago, around the launch of the Zack Snyder era. Brad Peyton (San Andreas) was attached to direct, and for a time it looked as if Dwayne Johnson might take that on before he set his sights on Black Adam. Guy Ritchie was involved with the project before Peyton took over. Obviously, neither version ever happened.
All of this is just speculation. While Gunn has said he won’t be bringing the DCU to San Diego Comic-Con this month, there’s hope that he might change his mind. If that happens, look for an update on Momoa and Lobo to quickly follow.
