‘Between The Temples’ Trailer: Jason Schwartzman Has A Crisis Of Faith In New Comedy Alongside Carol Kane

A cantor is someone, typically of Jewish faith, who leads people in song or prayer. But how can a cantor lead a congregation if he’s having a crisis of faith himself? That’s the question raised in Nathan Silver’s indie comedy Between the Temples, which debuted earlier this year at Sundance.

As seen in the new trailer, Between the Temples pairs Schwartzman with the great Carol Kane, and if you guessed these two could make droll comedy magic, you’d be right. Kane plays the former art teacher to Schwartzman’s cantor, and her request that he oversee a Bat Mitzvah turns his life upside down.

Also in the cast are Dolly de Leon (who we JUST interviewed), Caroline Aaron, Robert Smigel, Madeline Weinstein, and Matthew Shear. The film is directed by Silver, who co-wrote the screenplay with C. Mason Wells.

Here’s the synopsis: A cantor (Jason Schwartzman) in a crisis of faith finds his world turned upside down when his grade school music teacher (Carol Kane) re-enters his life as his new adult Bat Mitzvah student.
